These Are A Few of My Favorite Things!

I absolutely love Julie Andrews! Everything that she touches turns to gold! (Well, not literally, of course but you know what I mean.) So I felt the urge to watch one of my favorite movies of all time, The Sound of Music. That movie holds a special place in my heart because I used to watch it with my grandmother all the time and it's very nostalgic.

As I heard Julie sing the beautiful song, My Favorite Things, I started thinking about what my favorite things were and it inspired this blog post! So here it goes!

1. Favorite book-

2. Favorite movie-

3. Favorite sport-

4. Favorite hobby-

5. Favorite food- (If you can't tell, it's Spaghetti Carbonara)

The Photos I Promised!

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I was having issues with my camera and the photos from my Backstreet Boys meet and greet wouldn't upload. I was finally able to upload some of them! However, not all of the photos had good quality, so I didn't upload them. But, as promised, here they are!

Waiting in line to get our passes!

Childhood Dream Come True

So a few days ago, my mother called me to tell me that she won the VIP experience for the Backstreet Boys concert and I freaked out! Being a child of the 90's, I was raised on the Backstreet Boys and N'SYNC. In fact, my first celebrity crush was Nick Carter, so I instantly started "fan-girling" as they call it.

The concert was yesterday and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. We got a private concert/sound check experience with the boys and then a meet and greet. The meet and greet was only about 5 seconds long and we weren't allowed pictures or autographs but their photographer took pictures. So, hopefully, we'll be able to order them from their website soon.

Just so you guys know, I just about died when Nick Carter came up, said that it was nice to meet me and shook my hand. 5-year-old me could not have been happier! Then I told Brian that I loved him and he smiled at me. (On a side note, Brian is actually way funnier and sillier than I ever could've imagined.)

When I was younger, I would've given my left arm to meet the Backstreet Boys, so this is literally a childhood dream come true. So thank you Wild 95.5 for the tickets because I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Who gets to meet their childhood idols, seriously?

Unfortunately, I'm having problems with my camera, so I can't post pictures just yet. But as soon as I get the problem fixed, I will be uploading photos and videos, so bear with me!

Name Change

Wow! It's almost been a week since I last posted on this blog! I've actually been really busy lately and will get progressively more busy now that school is starting up again. But I found some extra time today to do what I love: blogging!

Today was a monumental day for me because I went to the Social Security Administration, which was an absolute nightmare to deal with (but it is what it is), and I legally changed my name! You see, my husband and I dated for about 2 and a half years and whenever we discussed the idea of getting married, I always told him that I was going to hyphenate my last name. To me, technically, I was taking his name. He accepted that but still always asked for me to only take his last name.

Up until about a week ago, I had every intention of still hyphenating my name but then I got to thinking about it again and I got really conflicted. No matter how hard I tried, when I filled out the application, I just couldn't put my hyphenated last name on the request form.

My husband is sacrificing so much for me and my future children by joining the army and being forced to stay away from me. So I felt that it was only fitting that I do something for him, something that would make him happy. When I told him about my decision, he was obviously very happy and supportive.

Now, in retrospect, this shouldn't be such a big deal. Normally when women get married, they take their husband's last name. But for me, I felt as if I shouldn't have to. My name represented who I was when he fell in love with me and I wanted to hold onto it. But I realized that taking my husband's last name would only bring us closer together as a couple and even though it's only been a few hours since I got the receipt from the SSA with my new name on it, I already feel like that's who I'm meant to be.

I feel like it makes our marriage more real and signifies the transition in my life from a girl to a woman. I am already loving the feeling of having a new name and it feels like it is just the beginning of a new and beautiful life between my husband and I. Plus, I want to have kids one day and my husband was not willing to give them my hyphenated last name. So, I didn't want to have a different last name than my kids, which only made the decision easier. (However, if any of you guys kept your last name or hyphenated it, I fully support that as well!)

In all honesty, it still feels a little weird, knowing that my name isn't hyphenated because I've wanted to do it for so long. I still can't actually believe that I made this decision but I honestly couldn't be happier. That's the funny thing about life, you don't always know what you want. That was definitely the case with me and the key to a good marriage is compromise, which I definitely believe was the case for this decision. So even though this isn't what I originally wanted, I am still over-the-moon happy because even though I only made one tiny sacrifice, I made my husband happy. Things don't always happen the way that we think that they will but hey... it sounds like life to me.

On another note, I can't believe that this is the 60th post on this blog, not including the posts that I put on my second blog! Thanks for sticking with me so far and welcome to any readers who have just discovered me!

Fantasy Writing

I always used to think that the idea of writing a fantasy-based story would never appeal to me. I thought that they wouldn't be serious enough for me or evoke enough emotion from my potential readers. I wanted to write stories that meant something and would make others feel a real connection to my characters. Then I remembered how much the Harry Potter books affected millions of people, young and old, across the globe and how, even though the books/movies are done, they still live on in the hearts of the fans. It was then that I snapped out of that delusional idea that I couldn't affect people with a fantasy story.

I realized that as long as a story is written well and it has compelling characters, people will read it and enjoy it. It doesn't matter where the story takes place or if the main character has magical powers. People want to read well-written material, so that's where you get your start.

So the other day while I was at the beach thinking about the horrible writer's block that I was suffering from, I got the idea for a fantasy novel. I tried not to get too excited because I'm always afraid that someone else has beat me to the idea. So I got home and Googled the idea and saw that it made no matches. I was elated and quickly began jotting down ideas.

Normally, within the first few days of thinking about a story, I can tell if the idea truly sucks and isn't going to work; then, of course, I stop working on it. I never throw away any of the outlines or completely reject any of my ideas because I hope that one day, I can revisit them and turn them into something wonderful. Until then, I'm going to be pouring all of my focus into this story, in hopes that I will be able to turn it into a novel that I can be proud of and want to share with the world.

I'm so glad that I decided to take a chance on this novel because there is so much more freedom of writing in the fantasy realm. I can make up worlds and rules based on whatever is inside my wild and vivid imagination and it allows my writing to grow. So stay tuned for updates on whether or not this story ends up published; I hope it will be and then all of my readers will be able to say that they knew me before my dreams came true. :)
